- Ride consistently over the winter (November - March). Try to get in one 3+ hour ride per week into December. Start back into 3+ hour rides in March.
- Get re-fitted to the bikes and reconsider the biomechanics.
- Get stronger. Continue to address the challenges with the back and left knee. Get a stronger core.
- Build a set of tubeless wheels.
- Figure out a bottle cage that reliably holds water bottles.
- Good, structured training in April, May, and June.
- Learn and practice some downhill technique.
- Scout the Leavenworth climbs and descents.
- Get weight down to 150 pounds for Leavenworth.
- Ride Gran Fondo Leavenworth, Ellensburg, and Winthrop.
Reflections on learning how to ride the Vicious Cycle Gran Fondos on an Reynolds 531 frame - a 1970 Raleigh Super Course with down tube friction shifters, 7-speed cassette, tubeless tires, and so forth. These superb rides offer challenge, beautiful rhythms, and inspiring landscapes. A developmental project for middle age :)
